UK COMMERCIAL CREDIT / PRACTICAL GUIDE
How Much Does Commercial Debt Collection Cost in the UK?
The cheapest collection quote is not always the lowest-cost option. Ask what work is included, how often it can be repeated and when a percentage fee is triggered.
Activity-based pricing
A creditor may purchase an initial call and email, a posted commercial demand or a documented business-premise visit. Each activity has a different labour and postage or travel cost. Clarify whether an unsuccessful call attempt still counts.
Commission and recovery attribution
A percentage can be charged against attributable funds actually received, but contract wording should define payments, part-payments, reinstated plans, VAT and attribution after the instruction ends. Do not assume a quoted rate applies to every age and size of debt.
Worked service comparison
Avencrest proposes £19 for one call plus one email, £39 adding a posted standard letter, and £149 adding one commercial visit plus commission only where separately agreed. These are indicative pre-launch package prices per instructed account, not an open-ended guarantee of contact or recovery.
Before signing
Request a scope, the number of attempts and letters, field travel terms, agreed success-fee percentage, minimum charge, dispute handling and cancellation rules. Ask whether solicitor work is genuinely performed by an authorised external law firm.
Practical takeaways
- Compare scope rather than headline percentage.
- Ask who pays postage, trace, field travel and solicitor costs.
- Ensure no activity is charged twice when a bundle includes it.
This guide is educational and should not be treated as a legal assessment of a specific debt. Avencrest's services and contact arrangements are still in preparation.
